Blog Post Ch.6
Discussion Questions:
- Do you think that Jody is letting the title of being mayor get to his head? Is it okay for him to not let Janie sit on the porch step because the “trashy people” sit there?
- Do you think Jody is controlling Janie too much (i.e telling her to wear a head rag to not let the men see her hair, telling her who she can’t sit with, and not letting her attend the mock funeral for the mule).
- Should Janie have spoken up before to Jody, or do you think it is right for her to bite her tongue all those times he talks down to her? Did she wait too long? Did Jody lose his respect for Janie?
- After hitting Janie, do you think Jody feels bad/guilty? Do you think he will do it again?
- After there has been examples of who is the dominant in the relationship and losing the spark in their private life, do you think Janie will leave Jody (or even vice versa)?

Summary:
The men now sit at the store’s porch making fun of each other and enjoying each other’s company to pass the day. They also stay by the porch to watch Janie work and to gossip. Janie’s husband does not like this and so orders her to cover her beautiful hair. Janie had to work long hours at the store because he does not put forth any effort at the store. They then start having mule fights and as janie shows her disapproval, Joe buys the mule and eventually it becomes the towns pet. This mule then dies of old age. A shipment was sent to the store but then was misplaced and Joe blames and berrates Janie
